Bonus soccer is coming to Stillwater this spring.
With COVID-19 precautions shortening the NCAA fall soccer season and postponing the NCAA tournament, some teams will play a handful of games in the spring to recoup those losses.
Oklahoma State is one of those teams.
The No. 12 Cowgirls (6-2-1) have scheduled seven matches in the spring, starting in late February and ending in early April.
OSU will resume its season against Little Rock on Feb. 28 at 1 p.m. in Stillwater. They will then hit the road for matches against Saint Louis and North Texas before returning home on March 20 to battle UTEP.
The next match will be one circled on many people’s calendars – Bedlam. The Oklahoma Sooners will travel to Stillwater for an in-state match against the Cowgirls in OSU’s first night game of the spring on March 27.
OSU beat OU in the fall, notching a 1-0 road victory on Nov. 12.
The next game on OSU’s schedule could be the most important of the spring slate. The Cowgirls will travel to Fort Worth on April 3 for a rematch with conference-champion TCU. OSU lost a heartbreaking game in Neal Patterson stadium in the fall on a last-second goal that essentially determined the Big 12 championship. The Cowgirls will look for a little revenge in their last road game of the regular season.
The final match on OSU’s schedule is a match against Notre Dame in Stillwater. The Fighting Irish went 4-5 in their fall season and 4-4 in ACC play. That .500 record is respectable, though, in the loaded ACC conference. The Fighting Irish should offer valiant competition to close out the regular season in Stillwater.
After the aforementioned seven games are played out, OSU will hope to be selected to the NCAA tournament. The Cowgirls proved they were one of the top teams in the nation this Fall and should be invited to the tournament tentatively scheduled for late spring.
