New faces give opportunity for OSU at Sooner Invitational

Baylor Nelson and the OSU track and field team competed Friday in Lawrence, Kansas.

The Oklahoma State track and field teams rested its main athletes and provided an opportunity for new faces Saturday at the Sooner Challenge in Norman.

Oklahoma won the women’s and men’s team scores. The Sooners scored 175 on the men’s side and the women scored 196. OSU finished fourth with the Cowboys scoring 42 and the Cowgirls 62.

Some positives were seen from the Cowboys and Cowgirls in Norman.

For the men, the majority of points came from the 600-yards and pole vault. Lakyron Mays won the 600-yard race with a time of 1:15.14 and Cole Verble came away with first place in the pole vault with a vault of 4.40 meters.

The Cowboys also earned ten of their points in the shot put. Torrey Hickel placed third with a throw of 16.11 meters.

The Cowgirls found similar success in the 600-yard race placing five runners in the top six. Latriceia Smith led the way for the Cowgirls with a time of 1:25.94.

OSU will travel to Seattle for the UW Invitational on Jan. 25-26.
