Freshman goalkeeper Amber Lockwood was not the usual starter during the season, but delivered when called upon; earning her award recognition.
Lockwood was named Big 12 Freshman of the Week after her performance on Saturday against Oklahoma. She helped shutout Oklahoma in her second career start in the Cowgirls 2-0 victory.
Lockwood got the start after an injury to senior goalkeeper Emily Plotz. The freshman performed admirably in the veteran’s absence.
Lockwood made a big save late in the game when a Sooner free kick threatened the Cowgirl’s 1-0 lead.
Lockwood knocked the ball away from the goal and jumped all over the bouncing ball on the ground to extinguish the scoring opportunity and secure a Bedlam Series win for OSU.
Lockwood has now recorded a shutout in both of her career starts.
