Lehigh snaps Cowboys' dual win streak

Oklahoma State's Dakota Geer wrestles Lehigh's Chris Weiler during the Oklahoma State wrestling team dual vs. Lehigh at Gallagher-Iba Arena on Feb. 3, 2019.

The Oklahoma State wrestling team struggled against Lehigh and lost in a tie-breaker decision 21-20 on Saturday.

OSU was missing several starters in the dual, and the Cowboys struggled to find momentum.

Lehigh took advantage of OSU’s missing starters at 141, 174 and 285.

A last-minute decision from Coach John Smith had Dusty Hone in place of Kaden Gfeller, who wrestled Ryan Pomrinca at 141. Hone had a strong offense throughout the match but struggled to get a takedown and lost in a minor decision.

Andrew Shomers started at 174 in place of Joe Smith, and wrestled No. 2 Jordan Kutler. Shomers only scored escape points throughout the match and lost in a major decision.

Anthony Montalvo started at 184 for the second time this season. Montalvo put up an impressive showing against Chris Weiler. After a close match for the first two periods, Montalvo got OSU’s only fall of the dual.

All-American Dakota Geer wrestled at 197 in place of Austin Kauffman. Geer dominated throughout the match and won in a 15-5 major decision.

Redshirt Sophomore Austin Harris struggled against No. 2 Jordan Wood. Wood dominated the majority of the match, but Harris limited the win to a minor decision.

The Cowboys were forced to forfeit the match at 133, which left the team score tied 20-20 at the end of the dual. Lehigh won the tiebreaker on 4th criteria after scoring the first takedown. The loss marked the end of a 21-dual win streak for the Cowboys.
