For the second tournament in a row, a former Oklahoma State golfer was in the final group on Sunday. But, like the last one, they came up just short again.
Viktor Hovland used a great second and third round to propel himself into a tie for second going into the final round. Hovland struggled to take advantage of scoring situations and pulled the ball right for the majority of the weekend.
However, Hovland couldn’t get going in round four and came up short of the win. Hovland shot 1-under in round four to finish at 15-under for the tournament. He finished solo third.
Rickie Fowler never got close to the lead, but did have a good tournament. Fowler shot 1-over par in his final round, but finished at 8-under for the tournament. The score was low enough to capture another top-25 finish. Fowler was eighth in driving accuracy this week.
Talor Gooch also had a great week despite not getting close to the lead. He used a 3-under final round to finish at 9-under and tied for 17th. Gooch was seventh in the field in strokes gained on approach to the green.
All these former Cowboys now turn their attention to the Memorial Tournament next week back at Muirfield Village.
PGA Tour rookie Colin Morikawa beat Justin Thomas on the third hole of a playoff.
