For the second hole in a row, Oklahoma State’s Maddison Hinson-Tolchard had a mid-length putt to save par and keep her lead.

As Hinson-Tolchard stood on the 17th green, she clung to a two-shot lead. But with her closest competitors a few holes behind, with more chances to birdie, a bogey would open the door for others to close the gap.

She drained it, center of the cup.

She made an easy par on the final hole and walked off the green with her victory all but assured. Where she had fought hard and made pars on the closing stretch, her competition stumbled. Her lead grew without making more birdies.

Hinson-Tolchard finished the NCAA Stillwater Regional at 4-under, shooting a 69 on the final day on the par 72 Karsten Creek course. It was her first college win that her mom, who had been unable to leave her home in Perth, Australia, due to the pandemic, saw in person.

“This one’s special. It’s cool that she was here to actually see me win a college event,” Hinson Tolchard said. “To actually have her here and actually see me play and win was really, really cool.”

She wasn’t the only Cowgirl to succeed. OSU shot 1-under to advance to the NCAA Championships, finishing tied for third. They were four shots clear of the next team.

They secured their spot with strong play on the final hole, with the four counting players carding a combined 4-under on the 18th hole. For the second year in a row, the Cowgirls will compete in the final stage of the NCAA Tournament.

“It’s amazing, I mean obviously that was the goal coming into the week,” senior Lianna Bailey said. “We played really well today, all of us across the team. It’s just nice to round up the tournament with a good day.
