O'Colly Sports wrestling beat writers Adam Engel and Braden Bush analyze the Cowboys' fourth place finish at the Big 12 Wrestling Championships and the final two rounds of the tournament.

The season continues for two additional OSU wrestlers.

Despite missing out an automatic qualification for the NCAA Tournament, Wyatt Sheets and Dakota Geer earned at-large bids, the NCAA announced on Tuesday afternoon. Six Cowboys automatically qualified at the Big 12 Tournament.

Sheets, a redshirt senior 157-pounder, enters his third NCAA Tournament. Wrestling through a rib injury sustained in mid-February, he failed to win at the Big 12 Tournament. Ranked No. 28, his offensive execution remains a major weakness. He hasn’t scored a takedown since Feb. 4.

A year ago, he was a late addition to the tournament and became the highest seed ever to earn All-American status.

Geer claimed fifth place in the 184-pound bracket of the Big 12 Championships, missing the cut for conference’s four automatic bids. The sixth-year leads the Cowboys in takedowns but has struggled against the Big 12’s best. He’s a three-time All-American entering the final tournament of his career.

The Cowboys will bring eight wrestlers to Detroit for the NCAA Tournament on March 17-19.
