Four All-Americans and eight seniors spearheaded the Oklahoma State equestrian lineup, but when the dust settled, three freshmen rose to the top of the Cowgirl ranks.
Although Auburn defeated OSU 10-8 on Saturday, Cowgirl newcomers displayed their talent.
Abigail Brayman, Harley Huff and Stephanie Helsen were responsible for three of OSU’s victories.
All three freshmen came into the competition with high marks. Brayman entered with a record of 3-0 in equitation over fences, 0-1 in equitation on the flat and a pair of MOPs. Huff entered at 4-0-1 and held three MOPs. Stephanie Helsen checked in with a record of 5-0 and one MOP. Katie Schell entered with a record of 1-2, but her one crucial victory came against No. 2 Texas A&M in November.
The freshman trio overpowered the Tigers when their names were called.
Brayman won her equitation matchup 85-66 but lost her equitation over fences matchup 79-76, erasing her undefeated status in the category. Brayman’s 85-point total included maneuvers worthy of an MOP honor, her third of the season.
Huff competed in horsemanship and won her matchup 76-75. She earned her fourth MOP award of the season and remains undefeated.
Helsen is tied for the team’s second-highest win total with six after her 71-67.5 victory.
The outstanding freshmen will have another opportunity to showcase their skills on Feb. 16 when Oklahoma State faces Fresno State and TCU in Fresno, California.
