A.J. Green needed only 45 seconds to light up the crowd at Boone Pickens Stadium.
The senior cornerback picked off McNeese State quarterback Cody Orgeron and ran it back for a touchdown for the Cowboys' first defensive score of the season.
The Cowboys' defense continued to dominate McNeese as OSU went into halftime with a 28-0 lead.
Although the Cowboy defense had a statement-making start, OSU's offense struggled in the beginning drives. Late in the first quarter, wide receiver Dillon Stoner caught the ball for 13 yards but fumbled, and McNeese recovered it.
OSU's first offensive touchdown came with 30 seconds left in the first quarter. Quarterback Spencer Sanders completed a 69-yard pass to Tylan Wallace for his third touchdown this season.
In the second quarter, the Cowboys' defense continued its hot streak against McNeese.
McNeese had three drives in the second half, and all ended in either punts or the end of the half.
The Cowboys accumulated 273 offensive yards compared to 82 for McNeese.
