The Oklahoma State equestrian team won both events in Fresno, California, on Friday and Saturday.
The Cowgirls began their two-day western excursion Friday night against No. 4 SMU. The two teams split the first event of the evening thanks to wins from Carly Barrick and Abigail Brayman. Harley Huff scored a 75 to give No. 5 OSU its only point in the Horsemanship category. After the first two events, the Cowgirls trailed 4-3. Equitation over Fences and Reining began at noon Saturday. The intermission proved favorable for OSU. The Cowgirls scored five points to SMU’s two. The Mustangs’ Jill Pfisthner had a chance to tie the match at seven entering the final ride of the competition. Pfisthner scored 47.5, sealing OSU’s victory.
Three Cowgirls took MOP honors in the win over SMU. Harley Huff’s 75 earned the award in Horsemanship. Huff has won a team-high five MOPs this season. Maggie Drysch scored 78 in Equitation over Fences to win the honor. Julia Purus received her MOP after scoring 72 in Reining, the highest in the category.
Later Saturday afternoon, OSU began its second competition against Fresno State.
The Cowgirls got off to a strong start with a 76 from Abigail Brayman in Equitation over Fences. OSU won the event, 3-2. Fresno State stormed back, taking Horsemanship, 4-1. At the halfway point, the Cowgirls found themselves down 5-4.
Coming out of the intermission, OSU got huge performances from Hannah Mitchell, Ebba Lange and Hannah Janson to put the Bulldogs away. The Cowgirls notched their fifth win of the season, beating the Bulldogs 11-8.
In the second event of the day, MOPs went out to sophomores Hannah Mitchell and Hannah Janson. Mitchell’s 71.5 and Janson’s 79 were the highest in their respective events.
