All good things must come to an end.
Fittingly enough for Cowgirl softball, it ended how it started.
Oklahoma State lost 7-1 on Saturday to No. 9 Louisiana in the second half of a doubleheader after beating Buffalo 6-3 earlier in the day.
The defeat was No. 10 OSU (12-1) first defeat of the season. The Cowgirls were rocked early in the game. Graduate student pitcher Logan Simunek gave up four runs in the first inning against the powerful Ragin’ Cajun lineup.
Although the Cowgirls settled down, only allowing three runs after the first frame and only losing the hitting battle 6-5, the deficit proved insurmountable.
OSU did manage to scratch across one run late in the game.
Sophomore Karli Petty doubled to right field in the seventh inning to make the score 7-1. The rally, though, fizzled out and the Cowgirls were introduced to the loss column for the first time in more than a year.
The Cowgirls had won 24 consecutive games entering the showdown with Louisiana. Their last loss was on Feb. 22, 2020.
The opponent? Louisiana.
