OSU left fielder Carson McCusker hit a home run against UCLA, but the Cowboys couldn't make a comeback after falling behind early.

The top team in the Collegiate Baseball poll spoiled Oklahoma State's win streak.

UCLA defeated the Cowboys 8-1 on Friday at Dr. Pepper Ballpark in Frisco, Texas. After six straight victories, OSU, ranked 28th in the Collegiate Baseball poll, couldn’t match the Bruins' quick momentum.

UCLA kept its undefeated record alive, winning its ninth game this season.

In the first inning, the Bruins took a 2-0 lead with a pair of RBI doubles, and they extended their advantage to 5-0 in the second.

Parker Scott, the Cowboys’ starter, recorded the loss. Through six innings, he gave up five runs and eight hits, and he threw four strikeouts.

OSU (7-3) didn’t score until senior left fielder Carson McCusker blasted a solo home run to left field in the eighth. McCusker, a senior, went 2-for-3 at bat, but the Cowboys struggled to gain traction on offense. They had only three hits: McCusker’s single, McCusker’s home run and sophomore infielder Hueston Morrill’s single.

Zach Pettway, the Bruins’ winning pitcher, allowed no runs and threw four strikeouts. Relief pitcher Adrian Chaivez gave up the Cowboys’ lone run.

The Cowboys will look to bounce back from the loss when they face Illinois at 2 p.m. Saturday in Frisco.
