Even with a perfect 10-0 dual season, coach John Smith is nowhere near satisfied.
With a two-week break before the Cowboys take the hour drive to Tulsa for the Big 12 tournament, there are a few factors Smith wants to really focus on.
“Our composure (has to) be there late in the periods… learn from this. Be better. Be motivated”
Even with many issues Smith wants to fix within the following weeks before the Big 12 tournament, the Cowboys have much to hang their hats on, following a 24-16 win against Oklahoma.
On top of this, the Cowboys extended their winning streak against Oklahoma to 13 matches, as well as their 19-game home winning streak dating back to Nov. 30, 1999.
One of the biggest surprises tonight came from the 141 matchup as OSU freshman, Jakason Burks was called to battle against No. 6 Dom Demas.
“I didn’t tell (Burks) that until today,” Smith said.
In the 165 matchup, sparks began to fly for Oklahoma State’s No. 3 Travis Wittlake against Troy Montanona, finishing the third period on a 12-3 run. This explosive ending for Wittake helped OSU’s momentum, winning their next three matches to seal the deal.
Other notable wins for the Cowboys included No. 1 Daton Fix’s pin at 5:31, improving his record on the season to 5-0.
In the 197 match, Cowboys No. 12 AJ Ferrari got back in the win column, following his first loss of the season during the Cowboy Challenge Tournament.
