Cowboy basketball film breakdown: OSU upsets Cyclones

The OSU Cowboys defeated the Iowa State Cyclones 64-56 and snapped the Cyclone’s 12-game home winning streak. Here’s some of the top Cowboy plays from the win.

John-Michael Wright drills pull-up three

This play starts with John-Michael Wright with the ball at the top of the key. Kalib Boone acts like he is going to set a screen but slips to the goal. Iowa State switches on defense and Osun Osunniyi remains in the paint to help on the Boone roll and to allow Tamin Lipsey to switch on to him.

Moussa Cisse then goes to set a screen on Aljaz Kunc. Cisse sets a solid screen and Wright drills the triple over both Kunc and Osunniyi.

Bryce Thompson hits contested mid-range jumper

This play begins with a pick-and-roll with Tyreek Smith and Bryce Thompson. Just like the play before, Iowa State decides to switch on the pick-and-roll. This leaves Osunniyi on Thompson.

Thompson realizes he has a mismatch and goes to work on Osunniyi. He uses a double crossover to beat him off the dribble and hits the pull-up jumper over Kunc.

Kalib Boone follows up Bryce Thompson’s miss with a slam

Thompson begins his drive to the hoop from the top of the key and Caleb Grill stumbles, causing him to get beat. Tre King steps over to play help defense, but this leaves Boone untouched on the back side.

Once Thompson shoots his floater Boone is already in the air and ready to grab the rebound. The ball bounces perfectly to Boone’s side of the rim and he finishes the dunk for two.
