Nolan McLean touches home after a home run against Vanderbilt.

Cowboys Nolan McLean, Bryce Osmond and coach Josh Holliday speak to the media after OSU's 10-6 win over Vanderbilt.

Oklahoma State came out swinging, and avoided the sweep against No. 2 Vanderbilt with a 10-6 win.

The Cowboys used a power surge at the plate to collect their 11th win of the season.

Here are three stars from the win.

Nolan McLean

The freshman has been making waves all season, but Sunday was his best game as a Cowboy. He started with a RBI double in the second inning to put the Cowboys up 1-0, he scored the next at-bat on a home run from Alix Garcia. Then his next two at-bats he sent two into the outfield stands. One went into the student section in right field, and the second into left field. McLean ended the game 3-for-4 with two home runs, four RBIs and three runs.

Brock Mathis

In an already big second inning for the Cowboys, Brock Mathis capped it off with a 3-run home run to open up OSU’s lead to 6-0. Mathis 2-for-5 on the day, but had the home run and a double in the eighth and eventually scored on a Jake Thompson single. The double and run for Mathis came when the score was 9-6, and seemed like Vanderbilt was clawing back into the game. His double gave the Cowboys the insurance they needed.

The wind

Seven hits found their way over the outfield wall for home runs from both teams combined. With the wind blowing fast directly toward left-center field, even a softly hit ball got an extra push toward the wall. Each team has power in the lineup, and it was on full display in the Sunday series finale. The power surge was led by McLean and Vanderbilt’s Isaiah Thomas who each sent two into the crowd.
