An Oklahoma State student was found dead in the Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity house early Monday morning.

Stillwater Police, Fire Department and paramedics were dispatched to the fraternity house on 1203 W. 3rd Ave. at 1:16 in the morning.

“Upon arrival, a 20-year-old Oklahoma State University student was located deceased in his room from what appeared to be self-inflicted injuries,” a Stillwater Police Department media release said.

The student has yet to be identified pending the notification of family.

KFOR reported the death as a shooting, but did not mention the injuries appeared to be self-inflicted, causing some concern of a possible shooter near campus.

“A student at Oklahoma State University has been found dead following a reported shooting,” the KFOR article said.

The SPD media release documented the nature of the call as a suicide.

An OSU spokesperson said the university "is deeply saddened to learn of a student death last night in one of our fraternities."

“We have counselors available at the University Counseling Center for our students as they work to process this loss, and our thoughts and prayers are with the student’s family and friends.”

Further information will be provided as it becomes available.
