Oklahoma State University is experiencing its first major COVID-19 spike.

According to the official OSU COVID-19 dashboard, there are 279 active cases, which is an increase of 122 cases since last week's numbers.

Of the 888 tests performed via university health services, 121 of them came back positive, which is a 13.63% positivity rate.

The university said many of the new cases are off-campus students and the majority of them are asymptomatic.

In response to this spike, the university also announced it will perform a "randomized sampling testing program this week in which 500 students will be notified via email each week to report for on-campus testing."

Editorial note: the initial article didn't factor in off-campus positive cases in week one. A correction has been made.
