Dining options over break

Meal Plans

Thanksgiving break marks the end of the in-person semester and a farewell to Stillwater for most, but not for everyone.

In the summer of 2020, it was announced by Oklahoma State officials that after the holiday break classes would go online for dead week and finals week due to COVID. What this means for most students is after Nov. 20, they will return home.

But for those whose home is on campus, the university hasn’t forgotten them, and several campus amenities such as student housing, the library and dining services will remain available throughout the break.

Shannon Baughman, the associate director of operations for Housing and Residential Life, said student housing is offered year-round, and not only when classes are in session.

“Housing and Residential Life offers continuous housing, which means that the halls do not close for University break periods,” Baughman said. “All residence halls and Family and Graduate Student Housing apartments will remain open.”

For students who chose to stay on campus, Baughman said a form has been emailed twice to residents to fill out if they plan to stay on campus at all during the break period. The answers students choose on their form are not final, Baughman said, and they can be changed at any time.

The library will remain open with varied hours until the start of the spring semester in January. During Thanksgiving break, the library will be open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Wednesday. However, it is closed from Thanksgiving Day through the following Saturday. Once Thanksgiving break is over, the library is open regularly, but opening times do vary.

The library is closed for the holidays, so no new books from Dec. 24 through 27, New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day and its following weekend. After the holidays, the library’s hours vary as they did throughout the start of December until the start of the new semester on Jan. 19, 2021.

Specific hours and days can be seen in the following link, which includes the library calendar: Library Hours (monthly).

During the online period of the fall semester, several dining options will be available, but many will be closed. Student Union favorites like Chick-Fil-a and Caribou Coffee will remain open on the weekdays with limited hours. For information about dining options after the end of the fall semester, Paige Pederson, event specialist for University Dining Services, said their calendar will be updated after finals week. Nonetheless, Pederson said University dining locations will be open through Dec. 23. An updated calendar for the winter break will be available on the same website:
