The expected power outage will cut power to roughly 4,300 households. This is all in efforts to balance the power pool and restore sufficient energy to the power grid.

Stillwater avoided a potential blackout earlier this afternoon, but an intentional power outage has been put into motion for tonight. Between the hours of 10 p.m. and 1 a.m., portions of the City of Stillwater will lose power for anywhere from 30-45 minutes.

It is unclear whether or not the OSU campus is included in this power outage, but students should be sure to have plenty of blankets and warm clothing.

This outage is necessary according to the Southwest Power Pool, as not enough energy is being generated to support the grid. These “rolling blackouts” will take place in multiple locations at staggered times to lighten the load of needed energy.

Students are encouraged to download the Rave Guardian app in case assistance is needed from OSU security/police. Try to limit travel and go out as little as possible.

As classes move online, if you are unable to join virtual classes due to power outages/energy shortages/interned deficiency, be sure to contact your professors as soon as possible.
