We all know trends come and go, but there are some trends that should have never come around in the first place. Here are some popular trends of 2017 that will die—and hopefully stay dead—by the end of the year.
Sperry shoes gained popularity quite a few years back, and they’re still worn by many college men. Once you're a young man, it’s time to invest in either a casual pair of dress shoes or sneakers to wear out. You can keep your Sperry’s boat shoes, but keep them on the boat in 2018.
Over-priced and low-quality designer jewelry is on its way out, and let’s hope it stays that way. It’s understandable if you want to buy jewelry because it's a well-known brand but not if you’re paying a lot of money for jewelry that will just tarnish and break. There are plenty of popular brands that give you what you pay for, so do your research. Sorry Kendra Scott lovers, her jewelry just isn’t worth the price. You’re better off buying Forever 21 jewelry for the same quality and less money.
Unicorn-themed anything has become one of the hottest trends this year, and it has also become one of the most over-done trends this year. Unicorn-themed things are great; they add touches of color and sparkle to our world. But unicorn-themed everything is starting to get old. Remember, what makes unicorns so magical is they’re few and far between. Don’t ruin the magic with too much of a good thing.
On the flip side of the unicorn trend is the “edgy” trend that started in 2016 and is continuing in 2017. Outfits made of only neutral colors have been all the rage on social media, and they have translated to the average college girl’s going-out attire. Colors have been on the backburner with this trend, and it’s causing many girls to dress almost exactly the same. If you want to dress edgy because it’s what you like then you should do it, but don’t just do it because it’s popular. Dressing like everyone else is so last year.
At the end of the day, a good or bad trend is in the eye of the beholder. The trend that will never die, though, is looking and acting like yourself. There’s only one you; don’t try to be anyone else.
