A former Oklahoma State student performed at President Joe Biden’s inauguration Wednesday morning.

Troyal Garth Brooks, who received a bachelor’s degree in advertising from OSU in 1984, performed “Amazing Grace” and even asked the crowd to sing the last verse as a sign of unity.

Brooks noted before the performance that this particular performance was not a political statement, but rather a sign of healing for the country.

"This is not a political statement, this is a statement of unity,” Brooks said. "This is kind of how I get to serve this country… This is an honor for me to get to serve... and it's one of the things that, if my family is around, no matter who the president-elect is, it's an honor to be asked."

Since graduating from OSU, Brooks has seen a successful career. He’s won two Grammy awards, 22 Academy of Country Music awards and 17 American Music Awards.
