"The Shining"

"The Shining," directed by Stanley Kubrick, is a 1980 film based off of a Stephen King novel. 

Fall is here, which means Halloween is around the corner, and there is nothing better than watching horror flicks with friends. This list includes Halloween classics and contemporary favorites.

In no particular order here are 10 must-watch Halloween horror films.

1. Psycho (1960)

One of Alfred Hitchcock’s most notable films is this horror classic that tells the story of Marion Crane, who is on the run after stealing money from her job. When tired, she stops at the mysterious Bates Motel and meets the disturbed Norman Bates.

2. The Shining (1980)

Struggling author Jack Torrance becomes an off-season caretaker at the Overlook Hotel along with his wife Wendy and psychic son Danny (this allows him to see the horrifying supernatural past of the hotel). After a snow storm passes, Jack starts to lose his sanity, causing multiple attempts to hurt his family.

3. Halloween (1978)

After murdering his sister in 1963, Michael Myers is sentenced to prison and locked away. Fifteen years later, before a court hearing, Myers escapes to his hometown of Haddonfield, Illinois, to cause chaos and kill his next victims.

4. It (2017)

Every 27 years, an ancient shapeshifting creature terrorizes the children of Derry, Maine, using fear as a tactic. It’s up to seven young outsiders to defeat the mysterious evil being as it terrorizes their summer.

5. A Quiet Place (2018)

In a post-apolitical world dominated by sightless and advanced hearing monsters, the Abbott family search for food and supplies while being completely silent. Even the drop of a coin can end a life.

6. Blair Witch Project (1999)

After three film students disappear from documenting about the “Blair Witch,” footage of the experience is recovered, displaying the suspenseful and terrifying adventure.               

7) A Nightmare On Elm Street (1984)

When a few teenagers become victims to Freddy Kruger, a defaced killer who terrorizes his prey in their dreams, it’s up to Nancy and Glen to investigate before it’s too late.

8) Hocus Pocus (1993)

Max Dennison moves to Salem Massachusetts along with his parents and sister Dani. One day after school, Max, his sister, and their new friend Allison discover an old building with a superstitious background. Max does not listen and accidentally releases the spirits of three evil witches. 

9) Friday the 13th (1980)

A group of teenagers are wanting to re-open an abandoned summer camp, not knowing a mysterious killer will murder them one by one.

10) The Purge (2013)

In 2022, the American government has decided all crime, including murder is legal for 12 hours each year, hoping to get rid of citizens who are not productive.
