The Stillwater Public Library, 1107 S. Duck St, is showing the documentary “Soul of a People: Writing America’s Story” Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
The Smithsonian Channel made this documentary to capture the spirit of the people who participated in federal programs during the New Deal, according to Smithsonianchannel.com.
Stillwater Public Library Director Lynda Reynolds said it’s showing the documentary because it is the 75th anniversary of the New Deal.
The documentary tells the story of the Federal Writer’s Project and those who worked as poets and artists for the country when people needed jobs the most, according to smithsonianchannel.com.
The documentary is about an hour and half but will be shown in two parts with an intermission, Reynolds said.
Bill Bryans, OSU associate professor of history, will talk about the WPA and the Federal Writer’s Project.
Two OSU librarians got a grant to do this program, Reynolds said.
“We cooperate a lot between the OSU library and the public library,” she
said.
