OSU wrestling: Cowboys defeat Rutgers, Fix remains perfect

The Oklahoma State wrestling team finished off an undefeated dual-weekend in New Jersey with a 26-5 defeat of No. 24 Rutgers on Sunday at the Rutgers Athletic Center in Piscataway.

The headline match of the day was won by No. 4  Daton Fix, who improved his record to 20-0 with a controversial 3-2 victory against No. 3 Nick Suriano.

The match lasted more than 30 minutes due to multiple replays. Fix won the match in the second sudden victory when Suriano was called for hands to the face.

At 125 pounds, No. 4 Nick Piccininni won by technical fall 16-0 against Shane Metzler. It was Piccininni’s ninth technical fall victory of the season.

Jacobe Smith also earned a bonus point victory at 184. He won by major decision 14-5 against Willie Scott.

The Cowboys won eight of 10 bouts on the day, losing only at 149 and 157, respectively.

Joe Smith, who made his dual debut this weekend at 174, won by decision 9-6 against Joe Grello.

OSU will be back in action Friday for a conference matchup in Morgantown, WV against the Mountaineers. The dual is set to begin at 7 p.m.
