It was a measuring stick weekend for the Oklahoma State equestrian team, and it left the weekend a couple points short of sweeping its road competitions.
The Cowgirls lost 11-8 at top-ranked Auburn on Saturday in a match much closer than the team score indicates. In raw scores, OSU lost 1443.5-1442, a margin which helped prove to the team it can compete with the elite this year.
The following day, the Cowgirls rebounded to win 10-9 at No. 6 South Carolina, earning a split on its two-day road trip.
While OSU would have liked to have come back home with two wins, the results are encouraging nonetheless considering it gave Auburn its third closest contest of the season.
Jordan White and Katy Krshka were impressive, for White won her both her matchups of the weekend to improve to 7-1 on the year. Krshka, a freshman, won MVP honors against the Tigers and Gamecocks. She is now 8-2
Coach Larry Sanchez said before the weekend he wanted the Cowgirls to prove to itself to other teams that it is better than it performed in the spring. After coming so close to the No. 1 team, the Cowgirls (3-4) did just that.
Allison Joyce and Maggie Gampfer, both freshmen, also had big weekends, each going undefeated over fences to go to 2-0 and 5-1 on the year, respectively.
Sanchez said he was proud of the team's effort this weekend and thought they rode well on the road.
