Oklahoma State men win; women take third at Penn State

Josh Thompson finished third in the men's race at the Penn State Invitational on Friday. 

Oklahoma State Cross Country traveled to Penn State on Friday morning.

The men’s team came away with a two-point victory, and the women finished in third place.

Hassan Abdi made his OSU debut, and he finished runner-up in the men’s race.

Abdi finished in 24 minutes, 53 seconds. The winner of the men’s race was MJ Erb of Ole Miss.

The other scoring runners for OSU finished in the top 20.

Josh Thompson finished in 25:01, good for third place. Luis Martinez came in 11th in 25:15. Anothoney Armstrong was three spots behind in 14th and a time of 25:18. Jamboree champion Sylvester Barus rounded out the Cowboy’s scoring. He finished in 25:26 and in 17th.

A pair of juniors led the scoring for the women’s team.

Aurora Dybedokken finished in ninth in 20:37, and Molly Sughroue came in 12th, good for a time of 20:41.

After the junior duo came freshman-standout Michelle Magnani. She completed the race one second behind Sughroue. Her time of 20:42 earned her 13th.

Savannah Camacho and Anna Boyert finished the scoring for the Cowgirls. Camacho came in 26th in 20:59, and Boyert finished in 21:28 for 54th.

Kaela Edwards and Cerake Geberkidane were absent from the meet with lingering injuries. Edwards’ return will be at the Big 12 Championships, and Geberkidane’s return is unknown.

The next meet for OSU is the Big 12 Championships on Oct. 29 in Lubbock, Texas.
