Solid individual performances highlighted Oklahoma State cross-country’s showing at the Arturo Barrios Invitational on Saturday in College Station, Texas.
Ashenafi Hatte, a junior, and Isai Rodriguez, a sophomore, won the men’s 8K, placing first and second, respectively. The Cowboys completed the race holding hands as they crossed the finish line. This was Rodriguez’s debut race for OSU. Hatte won the race by one-tenth of a second. He and Rodriguez ran the 8K in a time of 23:52.
Jorge Perez, Bryce Quigley and Sukhi Khosla rounded out the top five for the Cowboys. Although Ryan Smeeton and Luis Martinez didn’t run, the Cowboys finished second as a team. Smeeton and Martinez placed second and third for the Cowboys at the Nuttycombe Invitational.
Sinclaire Johnson, a sophomore, had another standout performance, winning the women’s 6K. This is Johnson’s second individual victory of the season. She won the Hurricane Invitational at the start of September. She also set a personal best in the 6K, running a time of 19:58.
Molly Born, Taylor Somers, Kaylee Dodd and Ariane Ballner contributed to scoring for the Cowgirls, who finished second as a team. Born, Somers and Dodd finished in the top 25.
OSU will travel to Ames, Iowa, for the Big 12 Championships on Oct. 26.
