The Oklahoma State equestrian team defeated host TCU 10-9 on Saturday.
The No. 4 Cowgirls got off to a good start when freshman Abigail Brayman’s 81 topped Elizabeth McKim’s 80 in Equitation over Fences. Fellow Cowgirl Carly Barrick, a senior, outscored Jayme Omand 82-77 to put OSU up 2-0.
The No. 7 Horned Frogs wasted no time in countering the Cowgirls with three straight points to take Equitation over Fences, 3-2.
The next event was Reining. Competing on her birthday, senior Ebba Lange won her Reining matchup and sophomore Hannah Mitchell followed suit, yet at half, it was 5-4 in favor of TCU.
Horsemanship and Equitation on the Flat were the final events of the day.
With three of five riders in Horsemanship having received scores, the Cowgirls trailed 7-5.
With their backs against the wall, the Cowgirls caught fire. In Horsemanship, TCU’s Marah Hutson couldn’t top freshman Harley Huff’s 75. That began a series of five consecutive Cowgirl victories.
Sarah Miller, a junior, followed Huff’s lead, taking the final point in Horsemanship. In Equitation on the Flat, sophomore Hannah Janson, senior Maggie Drysch and senior Katie Jones won by about 11 points each.
The run put the Cowgirls at 10 points, putting the competition out of the Horned Frogs’ reach. Despite taking the next four points, TCU fell short.
Along with the 10-9 victory, OSU took home a pair of MOPs. Huff’s 75 in Horsemanship earned her a sixth MOP, a team-high. Scoring a 72 in Reining, Mitchell received an MOP. She has now won back-to-back MOPs.
On March 10, OSU returns home to face West Texas A&M in Totusek Arena at 10 a.m.
