Joe Weaver, OSU’s associate vice presisdent of administration and finance speaks about his candidacy for Stillwater city council.

At the meeting Wednesday, Clint Merritt, current SGA president, spoke on the OSU Green Student Initiative.

OGSI’s purpose would be enhancing sustainability at OSU.

“Right now there will be no marked growth of OSU sustainability without increased funding,” Merritt said. “This is one of the reasons why we feel we need to get this passed. If we want to be a role model among Big 12 schools we, as students, need to step up.”

This would create a fee of $3 per student per semester. Some immediate uses include increased recyclingbins on campus and money for faculty or student submitted proposals, or for current sustainability student groups.

The proposal will be placed on the president and vice president ballot, and students will be able to vote on March 2 and 3.

During the meeting, SGA president and vice president candidate pairings were given the chance to speak on their campaigns.

Adam Roll and Courtney Skaer, along with opponents Kelly Offutt and Derek Barchenger, will take part in a debate concerning their candidacy at 5:30 p.m. in the Starlight Terrace. All students are encouraged to come.

A number of bills were also passed at the meeting.

A bill allocating $250 to Block and Bridle for Winter Bonanza was passed by unanimous consent. Winter Bonanza is a live stock show.

SGA passed a bill giving $400 to Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow to help host the Canada ACT Chapter from Wednesday through Sunday.

Passed by unanimous consent, the bill gave $300 to Engineers Without Borders to send students to a regional conference in Colorado.

OSU Alpha Zeta, an honorary organization composed of the top students in Ag Science, was given $268 for supplies to create a presentation board.
