The polo horses were chomping at the bit for the opportunity to get in front of Oklahoma State University students Thursday.
The polo club was on Library Lawn for one purpose, to show people who they are. Brittany Rader, Polo Club President, said the team is lacking one thing.
"Our club has 16 people total," Rader said. "We have 15 girls, but only one boy is on our team."
The team went to Library Lawn to recruit for new players. Anyone can join without knowledge of the game or experience with horses. Rader said polo is not like the equestrian team because the rules aren't as strict.
Those passing by were surprised to see horses out on the lawn. Others were excited and stopped to watch. Valerie Hayes, junior health education and promotion major, said she thinks the team needs to publicize itself better.
"They never advertise like the other sports," Hayes said. "Maybe they could write with chalk on the ground, or get on the radio, like some of the other sports."
Ben Wilson, a senior professional pilot major, said he was surprised to see the team playing on the lawn.
"I didn't even know we have a polo team," Wilson said. "I bet you didn't know that we had an aviation team, though."
Rader said the club is excited to start the season and get some new horses. The team has 17 horses, but Rader said the team is about to add more.
"All of our horses are donated," Rader said. "Bob Moore is about to give us six more."
The first scrimmage is at 1p.m. Saturday at its home arena located at 32nd Street and Western Avenue.
