Oklahoma State University police are investigating a report of a student being raped on campus Thursday evening.
Officers received a call from the Stillwater Medical Center, 1323 W. Sixth Ave., about 4:30 p.m. Friday, according to the incident report.
OSU police Capt. Richard Atkins said the victim waited until the next day to report the incident.
"They both knew each other," Atkins said. "This is not a stranger situation."
The victim told police the rape occurred between 11:30 a.m. and 12:04 p.m. Thursday in Sitlington Hall, north of Adam's Market between North Lincoln and North Monroe, according to the incident report.
Atkins said the victim has filed an emergency protective order, which was served to the suspect by OSU police officers.
The emergency protective order is a temporary restraining order against an individual that is in place until a judge can review the case and decide whether a permanent restraining order is needed.
Atkins said police interviewed the suspect twice yesterday at the OSU Police Department. Despite having no other suspects in the case, Atkins refused to release the name of the suspect. He said it might compromise an ongoing investigation.
The Oklahoma Open Records Act requires law enforcement agencies to make public certain records, including:
"A chronological list of incidents, including initial offense report information showing the offense, date, time, general location, officer and a brief summary of what occurred," according to the Oklahoma Public Records Act.
The incident report was redacted, meaning the names of the victim and suspect were blacked out before police handed it over to The Daily O'Collegian. Doing so means police did not provide the full incident report.
Atkins told staff at the O'Colly, "Take us to court if you want to try to get us to release it."
The emergency protective order is expected to be filed today at the Payne County Courthouse. The suspect's name will appear in the document.
It is the O'Colly's policy not to publicize the names of rape victims.
