Like most other seniors, Zac Robinson and Russell Okung are spending their final semester preparing to enter the job market.
Unlike their fellow jobseekers, though, Robinson and Okung's future employers are NFL franchises and their exams include running the 40-yard dash and doing bench presses.
On Wednesday, OSU's departing quarterback and left tackle, along with 16 other senior Cowboys, performed in OSU's Pro Day in one of their final chances to stand out before the draft in April.
Two of OSU's most highly regarded players were not in attendance, however. Coach Mike Gundy did not allow cornerback Perrish Cox to perform at Pro Day as part of his punishment for missing curfew during the week leading up to the Cotton Bowl and All-American wide receiver Dez Bryant didn't make an appearance either.
Despite their absence, Cowboy strength and conditioning coach Rod Glass said he felt OSU put on a good show for the 40 NFL scouts that flocked to Boone Pickens Stadium.
Glass said simply having Okung to draw scouts allowed the some lesser-known Cowboys a chance to make an impression.
"Anytime you've got a potential first round draft pick, numbers go up," he said. "You get more attention and that helps the other guys ... And the more eyes on them, the better."
Linebacker Donald Booker may have benefitted the most, Glass said.
After getting the chance to start in place of injured fellow-senior Orie Lemon in 2009, Booker surprised again when he put up the fastest 40-yard dash time of the day at 4.51 seconds.
Even with some Cowboys putting up unexpected numbers, the stars on Wednesday were still Okung and Robinson.
After suffering an groin injury that kept him from participating in many of the NFL Combine's events, Okung recorded a 32.5 inch vertical jump on Pro Day — a mark that would have placed him in a tie for fifth at the combine.
Okung said he felt it is his competitiveness, not his strength or speed, that teams should be most excited about.
"I want to be number one in everything I do," Okung said. "Whether it's drills or my position, I'm hoping (NFL scouts) like that (competitiveness) about me."
Robinson decided not to run or lift on Wednesday, but he did close the day with a throwing session. He said he feels 100 percent again and hopes he showed scouts that his shoulder is healed and ready for the next level.
When the workout ended and with the most of his main trials behind him, Robinson said he is looking forward to relaxing a little before, or even during, the draft.
"I might go play golf or something (during the draft)," he said. "I'll probably just go home to Denver and watch it with my family, relax and see what happens."
