On Senior Day in Stillwater, Obi Muonelo took time to soak in the environment that he came to love over the past four years.
After the game, Muonelo made sure to take time to recognize the fans after OSU’s 74-55 win over Nebraska on Saturday.
“It was a real emotional game today,” Muonelo said. “Looking into the crowd seeing all the fans that have supported me as a player. I will never forget these fans and the environment of Gallagher-Iba Arena.”
Coach Travis Ford said his lone senior deserves nothing but praise for his accomplishments in his time at Oklahoma State.
“I think Obi will go down as one of the best players to ever play here,” Ford said. “He has handled himself with great class, and Obi will be missed in many ways.”
With the win, the Cowboys (21-9. 9-7) wrapped up conference play with a win and finished seventh in the Big 12 standings as they head into the Big 12 Tournament on Wednesday.
After a slow start to the first half, the Cowboys regrouped on a the bench during a media timeout five minutes into the first half. After the break, Oklahoma State went on a 22-2 run to go up 30-11 with 6:30 left in the half.
Juniors James Anderson and Nick Sidorakis led the charge with 17 points combined during the stretch.
With Muonelo gone for sure after this season, Ford said he hoped Anderson didn’t play his final game in Stillwater, as well. After averaging 24.1 points in conference play, many expect Anderson to forego his senior year to enter the NBA Draft.
With 16:24 left in the second half, Anderson stepped to the line as chants of “one more year” resonated through the crowd.
After witnessing Anderson lead the team once again with 25 points, Ford said he wouldn’t mind one more season either.
“I was chanting (one more year), too,” Ford said. “I might have been the one who started it.”
