Multiple signs directed at OU football players appear on OSU campus

UPDATE: A second sign was reportedly displayed near Theta Pond on Monday night. OSU student Christian Stemm tweeted an image of the sign at 2 a.m. Monday.

A sign with homophobic remarks pointed toward Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield and receiver Dede Westbrook reportedly appeared on the Oklahoma State University Student Union on Sunday night or Monday morning, according to a tweet.

The tweet, from the account @BarstoolOKST, shows a sign reading "Dede Westbrook & Baker Mayfield BANG DUDES #OUHATEWEEK" hanging from the Student Union. The tweet was posted Monday morning.

The sign was not on the Union as of 6:00 Monday morning. OSU communications released a statement concerning the sign Tuesday morning.

“OSU is disappointed by the actions of a few individuals who briefly displayed an offensive and hateful sign on our campus and marred an exciting week leading up to Bedlam football," the statement read. "OSU has great respect for OU and its football team and looks forward to an exciting game Saturday.

"OSU regrets that the actions of these individuals has been hurtful to members of our campus and others. Through training and various educational efforts, OSU strives to be an open and welcoming community that respects and values every individual. We have been recognized nationally for our efforts.

"Respecting and supporting each other is the hallmark of who we are."
