In less than a week, many students will be saying “goodbye” to Stillwater and “hello” to a Spring Break vacation spot.

For as many students heading to the beach, many have also been saying “hello” to the Colvin Center. Spring Break arrives in less than a week, and students have been working toward having “beach bodies” for quite some time.

Although this common wish for fitness is an overall healthy decision to the students, the larger crowds can be bothersome.

“When I work out in the evenings, I have to wait for at least 15 minutes for a treadmill or elliptical,” said Andrea Mcbryde, an early child education freshman. “Waiting to work out can be often frustrating when I know I have studying waiting for me at home.”

Operation Staff member Danielle Willett said the Spring Break crowd began getting bigger in early- to mid-February. The busiest time of the day is between 5- 9 p.m., and the busiest days are Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Class sizes for OSU’s Fit First program have also increased. Professional pilot freshman Heather Rivera attends Swimsuit Prep and Ab classes and knows the spots fill quickly.

“I know to arrive at least 30 minutes early for Swimsuit Prep,” Rivera said. “Most of the time, there are already students waiting in line outside of the door. However, the class is an all-over workout and totally worth the wait.”

Jeanne Croka, the FIT First program coordinator, said many Colvin classes have full attendance.

“The busiest classes are the Abs classes, Swimsuit Prep, Butts and Guts, and Booty Blast,” Croka said. “There are a couple of Zumba classes that are very well attended as well.”

As for overall attendance, Croka said spring semester always has more participants than fall, but this year has been bigger than ever. Participants always want to get in shape for spring break, whether they are going to the beach or the mountains.

But for the many students who are working toward that sculpted body, patience and persistence are necessary.
