Expect a Saturday night of glow-in-the-dark rock climbing this weekend when Outdoor Adventure hosts its semiannual Glow Climb at the Colvin Recreation Center.
Glow climb will take place on Jan. 25 from 10:30 p.m. to midnight for all students and faculty. After the Colvin closes, dark colored tarps will line the windows, and black lights and neon tape will surround the climbing wall.
“It’s completely free, and you don’t even have to be a member of the gym,” said Catie Miller, student supervisor of featured local outdoor sports. “We have loud music, we have some giveaways and lots of climbing.”
It’s a great way to get involved and some of the giveaways include T-shirts and even a free one-year membership to the climbing wall, Miller said. No former climbing experiences is required. Glow Climb is welcome to both beginners and experienced climbers.
“If it’s your first time to come down, we will have people to belay you.” Miller said.
Miller has been in charge of Glow Climb for the past two years and has participated in it for the past three years. She says the amount of people at the event can range from 50 to more than 100. The only thing climbers will be required to present is an Oklahoma State ID card and a signed Climbing Wall Waiver and Release Form. Both forms can be found at the Outdoor Adventure office, downstairs at the Colvin by the rock wall.
“It’s just a good chance for people to come check out the wall,” Miller said. “It’s a big, fun party pretty much.”
