Former OSU Cowboy Boone Pickens is hosting a town hall meeting at OSU with the intention of informing students about the Pickens Plan, a path toward energy independence.

The plan would help the U.S.  harness domestic sources of energy, such as wind energy and natural gas, to would reduce America’s dependence on foreign oil by 30 percent, according to the Pickens Plan Web site.

Pickens hopes to get his plan running within the next year or two.

In order to achieve his goal, Pickens has worked nonstop, traveling to universities around the country trying to move students to action for the plan.

“I feel like it’s my mission,” Pickens said. “(The Pickens Plan) is important for all generations and we have a lot of resources that we can use to increase the standard of living.”

So far, the biggest turn-out Pickens received was 2,000 students and faculty at Indiana University. Here, at his alma mater, Pickens wishes to double the outcome and then some. Pickens’ goal is to fill Gallager-Iba with past, present and future Cowboys.

“I want OSU to be the best of all,” Pickens said. “I know I can count on Oklahoma State.”

OSU President Burns Hargis will introduce the town hall meeting and Pickens will follow with an explanation of the Pickens Plan. The meeting will end with a question and answer session.
Hargis strongly encourages students to attend the meeting.

“I’m a Pickens Plan guy,” Hargis said. “It’s a topic that’s timely; I believe in it.”

President Hargis is offering students further incentive to attend the meeting with a chance to win an orange Vespa scooter.

The meeting will take place at 3:30 p.m. in Gallager-Iba Arena.
