After his first 18 carries Saturday, Zac Robinson was able to get to his feet. On rush No. 19, Robinson wasn't.
While driving late in the fourth quarter to seal Oklahoma State's 24-17 victory against Texas Tech, Robinson rolled around the right side of his line.
Coach Mike Gundy said the play is one Robinson normally would score on.
But Robinson was met at the five yard line by the black helmet and red double T's of Jamar Wall's Raider helmet.
Both players went down, but Robinson stayed down longer.
"He is real tough," sophomore receiver Hubert Anyiam said."That time I just had a feeling that he wasn't going to get up."
Anyiam tried to jump on the loose fumble the violent collision caused, but as soon as he could he went to check on the condition of his offensive captain.
"He did not look good," Anyiam said. "His eyes were closed and I just felt real bad. I was just sitting there praying for him."
The injury to Robinson overshadowed the productive day the Oklahoma State running game had against Tech.
Robinson rushed for 99 yards, senior Keith Toston rushed 22 times for 76 yards and a touchdown while teammate Kendall Hunter had 68 yards on 17 carries.
Robinson's day running was highlighted by several third down scrambles to keep the chains moving.
Senior linebacker Andre Sexton said it was unfortunate Robinson got hurt doing something he had been doing well all day.
"He had done such a great job all game at tucking and running and converting first downs when we needed him," Sexton said. "To see one of our leaders go down like that, it's rough."
Gundy said he didn't see the hit happen, but the sickening sound of the hit put a bad feeling in his stomach.
"I heard it," Gundy said. "I didn't see the guy coming from that side, but I heard it."
If Robinson had slid on the play, the Red Raiders were out of timeouts and the Cowboys could have taken a knee and run out the clock. But Gundy said Robinson was trying to score.
"I knew if the end collapsed and the Zac got outside it was over, he was going to convert," Gundy said. "Zac is very competitive and he is trying to go all out and the guy unloaded on him."
Gundy said Sunday he expects Robinson to be able to practice and play against Colorado in the final home game of his career.
Anyiam said he doesn't matter when Robinson comes back, he just hopes his quarterback will be able to play again this season.
"Whether it's this game, next game or whenever. I just hope he is OK," Anyiam said.
