You may be correct that milage has not gone up on some cars. Like the first post said, you are comparing a full size SUV to a very small car. I do not know the statistics, but what was the model t 0-60 time? what was its top speed? If we can achieve decent gas milage but goes 5 times as fast....have we not progressed? The cartoon people are getting desprate or dumb

Unfortunately, you can't argue saying american carmakers haven't progressed since 1908 simply by comparing a Model T's mpg rating to an Explorer's mpg rating.
First, every car in the Explorer's class have the same relative mpg ratings, so by that point alone, you can only say that all carmakers are terrible rather than only America. If Japanese carmakers made full-size SUVs with incredibly better mpgs, you'd have a case, but that's just not true.
Second, you chose to compare a Model T with one of the lowest modern mpg vehicle classes out there. A Model T weighs half as much as a Ford Focus which gets twice as much mpg, but that doesn't quite help your case does it?
But apart from those glaring mistakes, it's completely right on the money.

Right on the money!
