Every change of weather needs its own soundtrack.
The recent rains are depressing to the point that in a movie, they would accompany an actor as he stares out a bus window into nothingness.

But spring is happy! It’s about relaxing outside no matter the time of day. Opening every window of the house and listening to our money at work keeping our Student Union “The Biggest.” So for this time of year, unless it snows tomorrow, I give you Efterklang’s newest album “Magic Chairs.” And yes, the band is from Denmark, but they sing in perfect
English.

This album is just yelling to be put in a Jeep commercial.

The band could be classified as an ambient post-rock band, but that would not do them justice. They are also often compared to Sigur Rós, but I think that’s band-ist.

The album really flows well, leading you through pastures and forests alike, which for some reason is how I imagine Denmark. Also, from current research on YouTube, they sound just as good live as they do on a record. They use a combination of vocals, guitars, drums, pianos and handclaps to provide some real chill and upbeat hits.

“Scandinavian Love” is my favorite song off the album, using every element and talent the band has. “Mirror Mirror” is pretty solid as well, using a lot of strings and drums. The whole record has this upbeat, folky feel to it, yet it throws some electronics in every once in a while.

Efterklang has definitely become my new favorite band, and hopefully they will warm your heart as well.
If you’re going to SXSW in a week, I strongly suggest catching these guys.
