Defining success at OSU can win you a scholarship.
Requesting scholarships can be a hassle, but the OSU Foundation has cut out the rigmarole with the launch of its Web site.
OSUccess.com, pronounced “oh-success,” is a simple gateway for students to receive scholarship money by defining success at OSU through a photo, 30-second video or 300-word essay by midnight on Feb. 20, according to the Web site.
The contest is open to students in good standing on any OSU campus. Ten entries will be awarded a $1,000 scholarship.
The scholarship is neither based on merit nor need, said Becky Endicott, OSU Foundation senior director of marketing and communications.
The Web site’s launch is a precursor to the debut of an overarching campaign by the OSU Foundation. The campaign details and winners of the OSUccess.com contest will be revealed at 11 a.m. on Feb. 26 in the Student Union Atrium.
“The Web site is an outlet to give students a voice,” Endicott said.
The selection of winners does not favor one OSU campus over another. One winner will be selected from one of the five campuses, one for each of the three categories and two wild cards.
“They’re setting the stage with their comments and how they are going to define this campaign,” Endicott said. “(Students) provide such a fresh and unique perspective into the OSU experience.”
The driving force behind this campaign is the Public Relations Research and Campaigns class. The OSU Foundation asked the class to promote the Web site.
“It’s easy,” said Heather Holmes, a public relations senior involved in the promotion of the contest.
The class uses social media, fliers, posters, and announcements at games to get the word out.
“Social media provides a very honest and organic and raw way to have frank conversations,” Endicott said. “It’s an incredible forum for people to have conversations about the ways OSU has set them up for success.”
As the Web site evolves, Endicott said the OSU Foundation hopes to open it up to alumni, faculty, staff and parents for participation.
The contest will run through the next 10 semesters. The Web site will introduce a success-related question each semester.
Whether you depend on financial aid, student loans or your parents to pay for your education, there is no reason anyone couldn’t use the scholarship money in today’s poor economic climate, Holmes said.
