No, Max Ackermann, a former tattoo artist at College Ink on Knoblock Street, did not leave the state because he did not have a tattoo license. Tattoo artist Matt Noghabai said Ackermann's license was transferred from California when he came to work in Oklahoma.

Ackermann left Oklahoma to pursue a more fast-paced career in Florida, Noghabai said.

"He decided he wanted to be in Florida," Noghabai said. "He didn't think he could do what he wanted to do in Oklahoma."

Assistant Manager Jennifer Hart said the staff is sad Ackermann left.

"He was easy to work with," Hart said. "We got along really well and he knew his stuff.

"He was from such a bigger location that Stillwater was a slower pace for him."

College Ink is looking for a new artist but has not found anyone to replace Ackermann yet.

"The fact that we haven't found another artist is part of the reason that we are so sad about losing him," Hart said.

Hart said it's hard to find a quality tattoo artist in Oklahoma.

"So many of them that are here now have been doing tattoos underground for so long," Hart said. "It's hard for them to follow the rules.

"When we do background checks, we find we've gotten a lot of lies and shady stories.
