Off the court issues:
Cowboy coach Travis Ford said although his team is 6-1 and playing well on the court, he is unimpressed with his team and its conduct off the court.
“We have a lot of growing up to do as a team. Unfortunately I am not talking about our freshmen either,” Ford said. “A lot of things you do off the court will reflect on the court eventually and that is some of the problems we are having right now.
“If we are having to drag you to class all the time and drag you to tutors and things like that, if we spend all our time doing that, it’s taking away from other things we are wanting to do on the court.”
Ford said the issues with players missing class has been ongoing and is starting to creep up on some of his players.
“We’ve been dealing with this for a long time and we tell our guys, ‘It will catch up to you eventually. You may think you are having success now and are able to get away with it.’ But if we are always having to do that, sometimes it’s worse than dealing with my kids, trying to get them to be responsible and accountable for things they are supposed to do.
“We want it for their own good, not just wins and losses, but for their own good they just need to understand you have to have some responsibility when you are 18, 19, 20, 21 years old, you’ve gotta have a little bit of self-motivation to do those things. They are kids and it’s not that they don’t have to deal with a lot, but we’ve got some kids that are just kind of repeat offenders.”
