Conservatives unable to put hatred of Obama aside

Republicans always claim that leaders in the Democratic Party are socialists and communists.

This same argument was used against President Wilson when he tried to create a League of Nations to pull the world together after World War I. The same rhetoric was used against Roosevelt during the Great Depression when his Democratic principles led to the creation of radical groups, such as the WPA, FDIC, SEC and Social Security Administration.

Kennedy and Johnson were demonized and accused of socialism in the same way when they advocated universal health care and passed Medicare. Similarly, Newt Gingrich accused President Clinton of being a communist when he raised taxes on the wealthiest 1.2 percent of Americans to balance the budget.

With such a long and proud history of using the same argument, one would expect conservatives could appropriately articulate their propaganda.

But today’s Republican leaders lack credibility.

With absolutely no power in D.C. and only 20 percent of the American people willing to admit their membership in the Republican Party, it is no surprise the only idea anyone at Fox News can think of to combat Obama’s tangible solutions for our country’s problems is to label Democrats as socialists.

We might have expected the Republicans would try to frame Obama’s policies as extreme communist manifestos, but their criticism lately has crossed over into a realm of wacky.

Last month, Obama gave a live address to all students in the United States to begin the school year. In his speech, he talked about how much hard work it takes to become successful and the importance of responsibility and integrity. He urged students to listen to their parents and teachers and challenged them to solve the problems of tomorrow.

This simple speech fueled conservative backlash across the country.

Parents kept their children out of school for the day after Rush Limbaugh told them the speech was “right out of the pages of the potbellied dictator of North Korea, Kim Jong-il.”

I’m sure it increased his ratings, but there is no logical correlation between the President of the United States encouraging American students to work hard and military dictator Kim Jong-il’s regime. Moreover, it probably isn’t the best idea to use “potbellied” to describe other people when you look like Rush Limbaugh.

I thought nothing could surprise me after conservatives characterized the president’s speech to schoolchildren as a communist attempt to overthrow the American government but then came the 2016 Olympics.

I realize the United States hosting the Olympics is the first step toward Obama’s New World Order, but the conservative response to Chicago’s 2016 bid was a bizarre political move. Not only did conservatives throw a fit about Obama traveling to Europe to personally pitch Chicago’s bid, but they also openly rejoiced when America wasn’t chosen to host the international competition.

Unfortunately, the modern day conservative movement can’t put its hatred of Obama aside to root for America.

Now we find Obama has won the Nobel Peace Prize. I assumed the Republican response to the news would be similar to mine, surprised and skeptical of whether Obama deserves such an award so early in his first term. The conservative mouthpieces, however, had their predictable response ready and used the honor as an excuse to attack Obama and once again try to connect the dots between communists and Democrats.

Next time you argue with a Republican, simply remind them President Obama spoke to schoolchildren because he is an example of the possibilities available when you work hard academically. He tried to get the Olympics because a vast majority of Chicago and American citizens wanted it, and he won the Nobel Peace prize because his name isn’t George W. Bush and, for Norwegians, that alone is enough to be considered the most important promoter of peace in the world.

Hello Everyone,

My friends Jesus was, is, and always will be correct: Ye shall know them by their fruits.

From all this the folly of those who ascribe all things to nature can be seen. Those who have confirmed themselves in favor of nature have brought such a state on themselves that they are no longer willing to raise the mind above nature; consequently their minds are shut above and opened below. Man thus becomes sensual-natural, that is, spiritually dead; and because he then thinks only from such things as he has imbibed from his bodily senses, or through the senses from the world, he at heart even denies God. Then because conjunction with heaven is broken, conjunction with hell takes place, the capacity to think and will alone remaining; the capacity to think, from rationality, and the capacity to will, from freedom; these two capacities every man has from the Lord, nor are they taken way. These two capacities devils have equally with angels; but devils devote them to insane thinking and evil doing, and angels to becoming wise and doing good.

It is in this way I'm knowing that, in the 2012 end time, JC our LG and His Holy Angels shall defeat BO the AC Muslim and his obamanite hordes.

Thank you Lord, sljc

By these comments it's no wonder Oklahoma lags so far behind every state. Religious fanatics are mainstream. Sane people have no option but to escape, leaving a higher consentration of crazy left behind. Sad...

Is using religious conspiracy theories a good rebuttal? Apparently in Oklahoma it is....thus the problem!

Hello Everyone,

Many Americans are nuts, they elected an AC Muslim to be their president! Even in the face of all the evidence of him being spawn from the bowls of hell, satan's child, yet we selected him as our fuhrer, and spun his fictitious imagery as an angel of light, crowning him as "the one". The world concurred to this illusionary light and placed a golden medallion around his neck and declared him the prince of peace, how nobel of them.

Here in America today if we speak out against the fictitious light, we are labeled as hate mongers, racist, homophobes, radical, stupid, nuts, insane, ant-American, unfit parents, shouldn't be allowed to have children, need rights taken away, need locked up, religious fundamentalist, hicks, anarchist, fascist, uncaring, insensitive, lacking compassion, liars, evil, delusional, etc. This hostility of those opposing the fictitious light barer, will eventually escalate into having their holdings withheld and/or confiscated, and not being able to buy and/or sell unless and until they demonstrate their marked allegiance to “the one”.

Where you been finch?, welcome to the days of Noah!

In the 2012 end time, JC our LG and His Holy Angels, shall defeat BO the AC Muslim and his obamanite hordes.

Thank you Lord, sljc

Hello everyone,

Wow, atheist...actually being emotional, defending...for what or why, I just can't imagine? Theocracy you have a family?, why? You're just so much energy to be dissipated and/or infused right? Are you suggesting you're capable of love?, with actual affections?, all of which is totally spiritual?, having none natural elements in it? I mean really, if you're just part of the energy system of the universe, wouldn't it be your goal to become part with that energy more directly? Does your family love you, and/or energize you?

Wait, energy can change forms but not lost. So whether a cable car, tree, fish, and/or you and me...doesn't matter, as long as we stay part in the energy. Today you're a energized mass of flesh, tomorrow you're cheerios for your family. What an outlook for atheist, nothing exist but them in the elements.

No wonder atheist are such sad, depressed, and suicidal peoples. The only outlook they have is form exchange within the energy of substances. There isn't any transition outside the natural plan therefore hope is not something cultivated with atheist, perhaps this is key for the depressed states in their being. But wait being is subjective, and there is none purpose recognized necessary within the matter, whether happy or sad, all is form changing at the end within the context of energy, right?

Instead of Spiritual beings in human forms, one could say empirical beings in human form, destined to become one with the big ball of fire, the ultimate assimilation for non-believers. Here then could be a more sunny outlook for atheist, instead of cheerios for your families, perhaps sunshine. Well there you go, when you tuck in your little ones at night, just let them know, one day you'll be part of the energy of the sunshine. And there in the energized particles, whether in a tree or cable car, we'll be together forever. Night night Suzi and little Johnny...O' and don't let the bed bugs bite... chuckle chuckle Don't know why an atheist would say that...but they might, right? ;-)

It is for this reason I am knowing in the 2012 end, JC our LG and His Holy Angels shall defeat BO the AC Muslim and his obamanite hordes.

Thank you Lord, sljc

p.s. All men are created by God for heaven. This is the source of all mans desire to fill the soul with love. And for those who deny the love of God, it is to them as anguish, a void, soul depraved of true affection, atrophy of all hope. This is that state of atheist and what makes them bitter and angry people. For truly my friends, where the good of God is not, evil of hell is. For either knowingly or unknowingly, the void must be filled. To draw a line from William; To be or not to be, that is the question. Or as written in the Holy Word of God (KJV); Joshua 24:15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD. My friends you can't serve to masters. It is true, either get busy living or get busy dying. Days of Noah are upon us. Amen O:-)

Hello everyone,

The sun's heat could not be endured and it's light blinded the eyes, and the scorpions tail froze within of it's poison and without of it's sting, turning steely dark blue-gray, and broke off from it's head. Those walking by seeing such a sight were astonished, sighed, and hissed as they shook their heads. Selah

This is how I'm knowing that in the 2012 age, JC our LG and His Holy Angels shall defeat BO the AC Muslim and his obamanite hordes.

Perhaps, we might look at the people Obama beat out for this prize? That would make an intersting article, don't you think? You might be surprised to hear about the accomplishments of the amazing people that were also nominated for this award, and question how they fell short to Obama's promise of change. I know I was.

^^^ What in the hell did I just read? A bunch of religious psycho babble from what I could tell.

I have but one clue for ^that guy^ This isn't a theocracy and I could care less about your Lord and Savior or your God. Am I really the only one that thinks equating Obama as an Anti-Christ Muslim makes you a nutcase? I get it, you're thankful for the coming of Barack Obama, the Anti-Christm Muslim (for those that didn't know what this crazy was on about), because you believe his "coming" is the beginning of the end (i.e.; The Rapture).

YOU'RE NUTS.

And Mary had a little lamb, Amen.

For those that believe Obama is truly setting a new tone in the world by reaching out those the US disagrees with, by accepting other views and other cultures, that is a legitimate view. Time will tell whether this effort is successful or not. And if Obama can really change conflict to peace in the world, he will receive a very much earned Nobel Peace Prize. Who does not want peace and human rights worldwide?

But if you, as Obama, hold the view that reaching out to those who dislike you will change them. If you, as Obama, believe we can find common ground with our enemies. If you, as Obama, believe we should lead in seeking the higher ground, then why not use this view right here at home?

Why should we reach out to dictators who suppress free speech, to extremist Muslim leaders who punish homosexuals and see women as servants and second class people, and Iran who wants a nuclear bomb, but not only suggest, but do "get in the face" of political opponents here in the US?

Where is this world-changing leader peace leader and his followers when it comes to dealing with those who oppose him at home?

Lucas, you sound like your more of a professional liberal newspaper writer than an MBA student at UT. I have been around since 1961 and have built several businesses that has given me alot of experience in life. You need to complete your MBA degree and then get into the workplace for a few years. You'll then "get educated" and come around to reality with your views.

Lucas,

There are several things that I find disconcerting about your article. Firstly, as others have said, in order to gain respect as a writer you might try staying away from insults aimed at someone's physical attributes when arguing about politics. You lose credibility when you succumb attacking someone as you are trying to combat the use of such attacks at Obama.

Secondly, Barack Obama did not win the Nobel Peace Prize because his name is different than our previous president. To quote the Nobel Prize Committee, President Obama won the prize because of his "his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples." Yes, I am extremely conservative and do not feel that he deserves the prize for my own personal reasons, but I also feel that he does not deserve the prize based on the previous statement. If his interactions with Iran and his handling of the Afghanistan situation are taken into consideration, he is performing very poorly in his quest to unite people. Also, if you look into how the nomination process works for the Nobel Prize, you will find that nominations are due by the first of February, a mere weeks after his inauguration. At that point in his presidency, he had not accomplished anything worthy of Nobel Peace Prize.

Lastly, you might try researching into what exactly constitutes as Communism or Socialism before you bash those who call policies from Obama or FDR Communist policies. I am guilty of calling certain policies and taxes as Communistic because I have read the Communist Manifesto several times, and if you take that into consideration when looking at things such as a tax on the wealthy or institution of the WPA, they seem eerily similar to the 10 points that Marx laid out in his pamphlet. I urge you to do the research on that subject, as I have, because it is very eye opening and somewhat scary that in a Democratic and Capitalistic society, we have individuals in power who are trying to employ facets of a government system that has proven itself inferior throughout the course of its history.

I objectively read your articles so that I can gain a perspective from the other side of the spectrum, but all that I gain from your articles is that you are very quick to put down the other side. If you want to gain the respect of readers who posses a different set of values than yourself, you might try writing an article that doesn't have the blatant undertone that all conservatives are ignorant and are out to ruin our nation. If you encounter something that bothers you, simply do the research and fight against what you want in a logical and intelligent manner. I especially implore you to read into the similarities of radical Liberal views and policies and their similarities to Communistic ideals. Don't be so quick to judge Conservatives as ignorant, simply because you disagree with their side.

As a foreigner, all I can say is that Obama winning the Nobel says more about Europe than it says about America. Europe has been reduced to an abject coalition of cowards who seek protection at Obama's feet. The reason Europe didn't like Bush was not because Bush was a stupid President who made stupid decisions. Europe hated Bush because Bush had aggression in him, some red blood. Obama is just the guy for Europe: all talk and no action.

When Obama accepted the Nobel Peace Prize, he missed his one and only opportunity to grow into a world class figure. A true statesman and a patriot would have promptly declined the award for two simple reasons. First, he has not had the time, or opportunity to accomplish anything worth being rewarded for. Second, no sitting president should accept the Nobel Peace prize, particularly while the country has thousands of troops deployed in two different war fronts. Perhaps it is because Mr. Obama is far from being a statesman, or a patriot. Or because his ego is too large to allow him to see past his own nose. Or both. You decide.

Lucas,
As a Republican, I read your articles objectively and find a keen interest in your liberal perspective on my party affiliation. However, keep in mind that if you want to continue to be a writer that gains the respect of your peers for your political views from both sides of the aisle, leave your personal attacks and vendettas out of your arguments. Even though I agree that Limbaugh can be too extreme in his expressions, your “potbelly” remark attributes nothing to the argument that you’re trying to make, and subconsciously causes a question of credibility on your part. Rush’s weight has no reference here. Let’s keep things in perspective.

I’m a Republican and I root for America. I believe in free speech as well. If you prefer to write this way, there is nothing stopping you, it just makes it tougher on the reader to take you as serious as they potentially could.

• Disregard my previous post. I was hasty and incoherent.
The League of Nations failed miserably. Have you ever heard of World War II? Its’ failure was due to its’ inability in taking the German people into consideration. Thus the League with all its’ free-thinking, bleeding heart, Humanist- leadership under Wilson, could not get the American people aligned under the new banner of a post-War World. Likewise, the League could not stand up to Allies taking Reparations, with each Country harboring its own resentment against the former Central Powers. The shame and poverty that followed for Germany drove the Country to an even more radical regime. Any revolutionary idea built upon a false premise and larcenous funding is doomed. It’s just a matter of time.
The "Great Society" of Lyndon Johnson based on the ideologies of Roosevelt is now broke. The programs that were supposed to get people on their feet perpetuated the poverty of said individuals. Taxpayers are punished for being honest and reporting all income-- with higher taxes. Government tax receipts were highest under Reagan when people were confident in their Government. They honestly reported income because they weren't being slapped in the face by a naive Administration, high-ranking members of which are exemplary tax evaders.
It is obvious to this author that Republicans are not a majority among voters in the populace and the only opposition to the Administration being offered in the media is Fox News and a few Talk- Show hosts. Therefore, the true opposition is the American people themselves. Left or Right, Liberal or Conservative, Americans are seemingly having second thoughts about a President and Majority who cannot make good on any promise; who cannot agree upon a solution to health care, the war, or even follow through with promised tax cuts to the less fortunate and the elderly.
The outcome will be similar as when Americans failed to be galvanized by Wilson into believing that a partnership between Countries still at odds with one another was the best solution. In an effort to secure the best solutions to their problems, Americans are opposing the threat of eliminating that which is good and that which works in their lives.
