Wormy Dog Saloon to host benefit for families of plane crash victims

Wooley announced that the Wormy Dog will host a benefit concert tonight for family members of the 10 Cowboys lost in the crash.

The concert will be an acoustic show featuring Cross Canadian Ragweed, Jason Boland and the Stragglers, the Red Dirt Rangers, Stoney Larue and Brad Rice.

There will be a $10 cover charge, with all proceeds from the show going to the families of the victims.

“Stillwater musicians pull together at times like this,” said Jeremy Plato of Cross Canadian Ragweed. “We’ve done it before, and we’d do it any day of the week.”

The show starts at 7 p.m., and Randy Ragsdale of Ragweed said the focus is going to be on helping people heal.

“It’s going to be more for the families than the music,” Ragsdale said. “Let’s help people forget the hurt and support everyone, and start to put some closure on the deal.”

Ragweed’s Grady Cross said if those lost in the crash were here, they would be having fun, and the show will be a way to show respect to those lost.

In another gesture of support, tonight’s concert will be recorded, and if the sound quality is good, the music will be put on a compact disc and released with all proceeds going to the victims’ families.

Cody Canada, lead singer of Ragweed, will perform a song he wrote to honor those lost in the crash. Other musicians will have similar tributes. Canada said he hopes the show helps people move from grief to healing.

“Everyone is sad about the whole deal,” he said. “We’ve all been through death. Anyone who has loved anyone has been through times like that. They know the time comes to move on.”
