The first opera written for radio, “The Old Maid and the Thief” was created by Gian Carlo Menotti in 1939. It is a comedic look at scandals, gossip and reputation in early 20th century America.

A few words from Baxter Black

Dear Editor,

As a fan of Baxter Black, I contacted his office and he gave permission to use the following poem as we choose in relation to the air tragedy. His secretary wrote the following. You may be able to publish this in the O’Colly.

Animals deserve respect from us

I have been a vegetarian all my life. Believe it or not, I have never eaten a hamburger, steak, chicken finger or hot dog. I can’t even imagine masticating upon another animal’s flesh. That seems weird to you, doesn’t it? But not to me or to millions of other Americans.
